DragonFly

DragonFly  The Next Step in Sustainable Adhesive Innovation

From BioImpulse to DragonFly: Pioneering Green Chemistry

BioImpulse, a pioneering initiative led by Michelin ResiCare, aimed to develop sustainable, non-toxic adhesive resins by eliminating Substances of Very High Concern (SVHCs). Over the course of six years, the project successfully demonstrated that industrial biotechnologies could produce high-performance, bio-based molecules on a large scale, providing safer alternatives to petrochemical adhesives for industries such as automotive and construction. The project's achievements included creating a unique fermentation and purification process that was validated in industrial pilot trials, as well as launching new adhesive formulations for plywood, carbon/carbon composites and more.

The BioImpulse project has now concluded. Its legacy is a new generation of eco-designed adhesives developed in collaboration with leading scientific and industrial partners.

Introducing DragonFly

Following the success of BioImpulse, Michelin ResiCare and its partners have launched DragonFly. This bold new initiative aims to industrialize the production of our innovative, bio-based monomer using advanced fermentation technologies.

What Sets DragonFly Apart?

Unlike BioImpulse, which focused on molecule development and resin formulation, DragonFly exclusively focuses on scaling up production of the bio-based monomer. The project aims to demonstrate the industrial viability of using non-food (2G) substrates, optimize fermentation and purification processes, and validate large-scale production. This approach will enable the production of safer, more sustainable resins while reducing environmental impact further.
