The Michelin ResiCare Story.
The Michelin ResiCare Story.
Our Story
The story of MICHELIN ResiCare began in 2008 when David Doisneau, a Michelin Group researcher specializing in adhesion, identified ways to replace formalin and resorcinol in RFL (resorcinol-formaldehyde-latex) adhesives. At the time, these substances were industry standards but were increasingly being challenged due to health, safety, and regulatory concerns. David's early work laid the scientific foundation for safer adhesive solutions.
After more than ten years of intensive research and development, a breakthrough resin dedicated to textile reinforcement in tires was developed. The first industrial tests were conducted in 2016 and quickly demonstrated high performance and easy integration into existing processes. Impressed by these results, Michelin decided to produce this technology on a large scale and extend its use beyond tires. Quentin Faucret joined David to develop this concept, and together, they founded MICHELIN ResiCare.
With expertise in adhesion science, polymers, and green chemistry, MICHELIN ResiCare has expanded its portfolio to include dipped fabrics, belts, plywood, insulation, and other engineered products. Meanwhile, the company is actively working to biosource its monomers, aiming to reduce its reliance on fossil-based resources while maintaining demanding performance standards.
Since 2018, over 100 million tires have been produced using MICHELIN ResiCare resins, showcasing the technology's robustness, scalability, and industrial relevance. Today, MICHELIN ResiCare employs over 50 people who collaborate across research, development, and industrialization to promote a healthier and safer industrial environment.
Innovation remains a core pillar of the company, which holds more than 40 patents protecting its technologies. Through continuous research and close collaboration with industrial partners, MICHELIN ResiCare helps develop new materials that balance performance, safety, and sustainability.
