Non-Toxicity
Non-Toxicity
Non-Toxic Solutions for Safer, Sustainable Performance
Why Non-Toxicity Is Essential
Traditional thermoset resins often rely on oil-based resources and contain hazardous chemicals such as formaldehyde, bisphenols, resorcinol, phenol, and isocyanates. These substances are linked to endocrine disruption, carcinogenic risks, and respiratory issues, creating serious health and environmental concerns.
At Michelin ResiCare, we are committed to eliminating toxic molecules from our solutions to protect both people and the planet, and to support a future where high-performance materials are also safe and sustainable.

The Risks of Toxic Molecules
Indoor air can be up to 8 times more polluted than outdoor air. Formaldehyde, which is present in all homes in trace amounts, for example, has been classified as Carc1B since 2016 and is recognized as an endocrine disruptor by the EU. These risks are driving global regulations and industry change.
“My daughter’s room contained formaldehyde at 19 micrograms per cubic meter—nearly 3 times the EPA limit.”
(ProPublica, 2024)

Regulatory Pressure and Global Norms
The European REACH regulation and similar frameworks worldwide are tightening restrictions on substances of very high concern (SVHC). Addittionally, both the USA and China are strengthening regulations on formaldehyde and other toxic chemicals to enhance safety and compliance.
Compliance is no longer optional and regulatory deadlines are approaching. The first obligation for employers is substitution: replacing hazardous agents with safer alternatives wherever technically possible.
