Cerisea is Michelin ResiCare’s latest breakthrough in green chemistry, focused on the industrial-scale production of 5-HMF (5-Hydroxymethylfurfural), a biosourced, non-toxic molecule with wide-ranging industrial applications. "The Sleeping Giant"

What is 5-HMF and Why Does It Matter ?

Also known as the “sleeping giant,” 5-HMF is a versatile platform molecule derived from fructose using green chemistry processes. Given its ability to replace fossil-based and hazardous ingredients, it is already used in Michelin ResiCare’s non-toxic adhesive resins, helping reduce health risks for operators and consumers. Its industrial availability will unlock a European market potential of over 40,000 tonnes by 2030.
